Privacy and terms

Greetmark is a business card you hand over in person. Your page is for everyone. Your card is for the people you meet. This page explains what we keep and who can see it, and the terms for using Greetmark.

Privacy

The short version

Who this covers

Three kinds of people use Greetmark: people who have a card (owners), people who meet a card by scanning its QR (visitors), and people who join the waitlist. A section below covers companies, for Greetmark for Teams.

If you have a card

What we keep

Who can see it

Anyone can see the details you mark Public. Details you mark Share in person go only to people who scan your QR and chat with your card. Your contacts, chats and photos are for you alone: you see them once you're signed in, and we email you a copy of each new contact. The services listed below, and the people who run Greetmark, can reach them only to run the service.

If you meet a card

Visitors never sign up. When you scan someone's QR and chat with their card, we keep:

Who sees it: the person whose card you chatted with, because that is the point: it's how they remember you. And you. The services listed below process it to run Greetmark, and the people who run Greetmark can reach it when the service needs it.

How we use your email: to send you their card, and, if you click a link we sent, to confirm the address is yours. Typing an email unlocks nothing; only clicking our link does. We don't add you to a mailing list or send you marketing. Each card email ends with one link to get a card of your own, and that's all.

If you join the waitlist

We keep your email, the page you joined from and, if you met someone's card first, which card. We use them only to write when your spot opens.

Company data and personal data

A card always belongs to its person, never to a company. Greetmark for Teams, which isn't available yet, will let a company sponsor its people's cards. When it does:

We'll add the details here before Teams launches.

Services we use

We share data with these companies only to run Greetmark, and never for their own marketing:

We would disclose data only if the law required it.

Cookies

We use only the cookies Greetmark needs: one that remembers this browser and the people you've met, one that keeps an owner signed in, and a short-lived one while you sign in. No advertising or analytics cookies.

How long we keep it

We clear out old records automatically, every few minutes.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can:

Write to us and we'll answer within 30 days. Laws such as Europe's GDPR and California's privacy law give some people these rights; we give them to everyone.

Security

Every request is checked against who you are, so one owner can never read another's contacts, and a chat can only be read or continued in the browser that started it (or, on a website that blocks our cookie, the open page that started it). Sign-in links work once and are stored scrambled. Photos from chats are never public. Greetmark's pages and the services behind it use HTTPS only; email travels between mail servers like any other email, usually encrypted. No system is perfect; if a breach ever affected your data, we would tell you promptly.

Children

Greetmark isn't meant for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly keep their data.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with its date, and email owners about anything important.

Terms

Draft for review. These terms aren't in effect yet.

Greetmark is a business card you hand over in person. These terms cover using it: having a card, and chatting with someone else's. By claiming a card or chatting with one, you agree to them.

The short version

Who can use Greetmark

You must be at least 16, or older if the law where you live requires it. A card belongs to one person: you, using your own name. Greetmark is invite-only for now: you can claim a card after meeting someone who has one, or when we invite you from the waitlist.

Your card

Your content

What you put on your card (your photo, words, links, logo and looks) stays yours. You give us permission to store it, show it and copy it as needed to run Greetmark: on your page for the details you make public, to the people who scan your QR for the details you share in person, in the emails your card sends, and to the services that help us run the card (listed under Privacy above). That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from copies that take a short time to clear, as Privacy above explains.

Keep it clean and yours to share: no copyrighted material you don't have the right to use, no profanity, and no adult content.

Using Greetmark fairly

Don't use Greetmark to:

The people you meet

When someone chats with your card, they give you their name, email and what you talked about so you can stay in touch. Use their details for that. Don't sell them, share them for someone else's marketing, or add people to mailing lists they didn't agree to join.

If you chat with someone's card

You don't need an account. Your details go to the person whose card you chatted with, and we handle them as Privacy above describes. Once they're in that person's contacts, how that person uses them is up to them, under these terms.

Price

Greetmark is free for personal use. Plans for professionals and companies will come later. We'll give notice before charging you for anything, and you can delete your account instead.

No warranty

We work hard to keep Greetmark running well, but we provide it as it is and as available, without promises that it will always be up, error-free, or right for your purpose. Card emails can be delayed or filtered as spam, and the chat can make mistakes.

Limits on our liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses that come from using Greetmark or not being able to, including lost contacts, data, business or profits. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the lesser of $50 and what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

Ending things

Changes

If we change these terms, we'll post the new version here with its date, and email owners about anything important before it takes effect. If you keep using Greetmark after that, the new terms apply.
